Senegalese journalist and communications specialist Abdarahmane Wone expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for supporting initiatives aimed at combating historical injustice, Report informs.
Speaking at the international conference "Media and Decolonization: Raising Voices, Amplifying Narratives" in Baku, Wone thanked the organizers, noting the importance of creating platforms where representatives of different countries can discuss issues of historical memory, human rights, and fair representation of peoples.
He emphasized the particular significance of the events of March 25, 2026, when the United Nations adopted a declaration against slavery, as well as a document on reparations.
"This was a true victory for African peoples. We are deeply grateful to Azerbaijan, which was among the states that recognized slavery against Black peoples as a crime against humanity," Wone added.
He noted that the conference is dedicated to rethinking the role of media in shaping public perceptions. "Decolonization is not limited only to institutions or borders. It also concerns the spaces where knowledge is created and disseminated," the journalist stated.
