The total trade turnover of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) exceeded $1.3 trillion last year, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication Vusal Gasimli said at the 2nd Solidarity Forum of NGOs of OTS member countries held in Baku Saturday, Report informs.
Gasimli said OTS member states recorded strong economic growth indicators in 2025.
"Economic dynamics in the Turkic states are developing rapidly. Last year, the total population of OTS countries reached 180 million. By 2025, the combined gross domestic product across the Turkic world exceeded $2.1 trillion. This indicator has placed us among the world's top 10 economic regions with the strongest economic potential," he said.
Gasimli, in his speech, touched upon the urbanization issue in the world.
Gasimli noted that 55% of the world's population currently lives in cities and that the figure is expected to rise further in the coming decades.
"By 2050, this figure will increase to 70%. This means there will be a need for the construction of new cities," he added.
The head of the center highlighted the progress of construction and restoration work in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan and the inclusive approach to urban planning.
Gasimly noted, in particular, that by 2035, up to 200 cities and towns will be restored in Karabakh and East Zangazur: "Azerbaijan is demonstrating a modern and inclusive approach to urban planning, which does not bypass these territories either. Restoration and reconstruction work will continue at an accelerated pace."
