The authorities of Bogotá, Colombia, intend to implement public space restoration projects in more than 80 districts of the city, Vanessa Velasco, Habitat Chief Secretary of Bogota, said during a panel discussion at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
According to her, Bogotá already has a land use master plan integrated with a climate action plan. However, informal settlements remain one of the main challenges.
"We have already done a lot of work in disaster risk analysis to integrate these processes," Velasco noted.
She emphasized that the next important step is to move from planning to investment.
According to Velasco, the strategy for improving urban areas is being implemented through investments in sustainable infrastructure.
"We are currently working in over 80 districts, where projects are underway to restore public spaces, build drainage systems, modernize electrical infrastructure in public areas, and use recycled materials in landscaping," she said.
According to her, one of the key challenges remains the implementation of sustainable construction projects and the preservation of natural areas in the city's central and historic districts. However, she acknowledged that implementing such projects takes considerable time.
