Baku demonstrates a successful example of safe and inclusive urban development, which is why holding the Women's Assembly within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum 13 in Azerbaijan's capital is of particular importance, Kaori Ishikawa, UN Women Representative in Georgia and South Caucasus Coordinator, said on the sidelines of WUF13.
Report quotes her as saying the organizers of the Women"s Assembly aim to emphasize that urban development must be inclusive and sustainable.
"And we truly want to ensure that women are part of this process," the representative noted.
Ishikawa stressed that the safe city initiative is being promoted within the context of urban planning so that women, men, children, persons with disabilities, and elderly people can live safely in cities.
She also noted that the initiative promotes the creation of spaces to combat violence against women, as well as support centers for women engaged in unpaid care work for children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
"We are demonstrating various examples of how governments, municipalities, cities, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector can work together," Ishikawa added.
According to her, the Women's Assembly is focused on involving women in urban planning processes and creating safe living conditions for women and girls.
