UN praises launch of Global South NGO Platform in Baku

The launch of the Global South NGO Platform strengthens Azerbaijan's role in developing South-South cooperation, Dima Al-Khatib, director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation, told journalists on the sidelines of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Report informs.

"It is a great honor for me to be here in Baku and witness the launch of the Global South NGO Platform. This is an important initiative that strengthens Azerbaijan's position in South-South and triangular cooperation. This is not the country's first step in this direction, but the platform is particularly significant because it brings together the voices of non-governmental organizations from across the Global South," she said.

According to Al-Khatib, such structures will be able to represent the interests of communities in advancing the global agenda, including for least developed countries, small island developing states, landlocked countries, and middle-income countries.

"We intend to work closely with them, including through our Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation," the head of UNOSSC emphasized.
