Azerbaijan's hosting of major international events such as the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) and the 13th Session of the World Urbanization Forum (WUF13) demonstrates the government's serious approach to addressing legal and environmental challenges, Report informs.
Speaking via video message at the 2026 World Environment Day (WED) in Baku, organized in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, praised Azerbaijan's role in advancing the global agenda.
She noted that local communities highlight housing as a pillar of sustainable urban development, calling for inclusive, accessible, affordable, and context‑appropriate solutions.
"This approach requires new commitments to nature‑based solutions, the creation of healthy ecosystems for greener urban spaces, and strengthened resilience. Human settlements should not only reduce environmental impact but also build sustainable communities," Rossbach emphasized.
