Ukrainian envoy to Azerbaijan: New balance of power forming in South Caucasus

The agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia within the peace process and the initialing of the peace treaty text by the parties in Washington on August 8 demonstrate the formation of a new geopolitical reality in the South Caucasus, Ukrainian Ambassador Yuriy Husyev wrote in his author's column, Report informs.

"The completion of the OSCE Minsk process, the launch of the large-scale infrastructure project TRIPP - "Trump Route", the development of transport corridors, the lifting of restrictions on defense cooperation with the United States - all this forms a new geopolitical reality of the Caspian-Black Sea region and makes Azerbaijan and Armenia an example of how peace can be not only a dream, but also the result of painstaking daily work and incredible efforts," he wrote.

In his opinion, the initialing of the peace treaty is a clear signal of a new balance of power in the region. He noted that these changes lead to a weakening of Moscow's influence in the South Caucasus.

"This is eloquent evidence that the South Caucasus is emerging from the zone of Russian dominance and moving towards a new era of security, development and cooperation. The seven points of the joint declaration are not a dry list of agreements, but a real action plan: to create a future without war, open new transport routes, reject revanchist approaches, deepen economic partnership and, most importantly, guarantee mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and borders," Husyev believes.

The diplomat recalled that during a recent telephone conversation between the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the leaders of the two countries discussed the peace process between Baku and Yerevan.

"The head of the Ukrainian state congratulated President Aliyev and the entire Azerbaijani people on the agreements reached with Armenia with the support of US President Donald Trump for the sake of long-term peace and reliable security in the South Caucasus region, noting that the world community was extremely positive about the trilateral meeting in Washington and expressed hope that everything will work out," the ambassador said.

Husyev believes that the South Caucasus is opening a new page in its history today. "We sincerely congratulate our friends and partners on this victory," the ambassador emphasized, expressing hope for a quick peace in Ukraine, which will be based on international law.
