UK-Azerbaijan defense cooperation set to expand over next 3-4 years

Defense cooperation between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan is expected to actively develop over the next three to four years, said Britain's new ambassador to Azerbaijan, Duncan Norman, Report informs.

According to Report, Norman said the strategic partnership between the UK and Azerbaijan remains strong, with the two sides working on a document covering a wide range of areas of cooperation.

"It was previously announced that bilateral relations had been elevated to a strategic partnership. We are currently working on documents covering a wide range of areas, including political and economic cooperation, defense cooperation and other fields," the diplomat said.

He noted that the document is being developed jointly with the Azerbaijani government.

"Once the work on the document is completed, the strategic partnership between the countries will move into practical implementation," the ambassador emphasized.

Norman also said that the appointment of a permanent UK military attaché to Azerbaijan in 2025 was an important step in developing bilateral cooperation.

"This is a really significant step. The good news is that he continues to work here," Norman said.

According to him, defense cooperation between the two countries is a new area.

"As with any new relationship, we need to start small and develop it gradually. That is exactly what we are doing now. I am confident that our cooperation will expand significantly over the next three to four years. I see this as one of the promising areas for developing relations between the UK and Azerbaijan," he said.
