Ugandan activist seeks housing solutions from WUF13 in Baku

President of the National Slum Dwellers Federation in Uganda Sarah Nandudu said participants at the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku are discussing common urban challenges and possible solutions.

According to Report, speaking at the Leaders Summit held for the first time in the history of WUF, Nandudu said she hopes to return from Azerbaijan to Uganda with practical solutions.

"As an organization, we have met with various partners and governments and proposed different solutions to address these problems. I want to return from Azerbaijan to Uganda with solutions and say that we have achieved practical results," she stated.

Nandudu also stressed the importance of access to land and housing.

"A house should be built on the ground, not in the air," she said. "However, in Uganda, there are serious problems with building homes on land. We are almost excluded from cities, and there are no conditions for us to become homeowners."

She added that people living in slums face major difficulties and called on the international community to support vulnerable communities.

"We must take steps to improve the living conditions of people living in slums," Nandudu said.
