Turkic states eye Interpol-style organization to combat crime

Member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) plan to establish a special organization, TURKPOL, to combat transnational crime.

According to Report, citing Hürriyet, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi made the remarks while commenting on the results of the third meeting of OTS interior ministers held in Astana on September 10.

"I believe that once TURKPOL is established, our cooperation and joint efforts in combating cross-border crimes and criminals will become even stronger," Çiftçi said.

The new organization could operate along similar lines to Interpol and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol).
