Slovakia intends to actively participate in the midterm review of the New Urban Agenda, a Slovakian representative said at a ministerial roundtable during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, according to Report.
"Slovakia is ready to actively participate in the midterm review of the New Urban Agenda and in the joint discussion on how UN-Habitat (the United Nations Human Settlements Programme) can strengthen its implementation in the next decade," he noted.
The representative emphasized that modern urban development should be considered not only through the lens of infrastructure projects and spatial planning, but above all in terms of quality of life.
"Urban development is not only about infrastructure, buildings, and spatial planning. Above all, it is about people, their access to services, public spaces, and opportunities for a decent quality of life," he stated.
According to him, Slovakia is already taking steps to strengthen an integrated approach to territorial development, including improving strategic planning and coordination between different levels of government.
He also noted that countries continue to face a number of serious challenges that require accelerated solutions. These include providing affordable housing, enhancing the climate resilience of cities, demographic change, and growing pressure on public services.
