Today, the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, two allied states, are of a strategic nature, playing a vital role in ensuring stability in the South Caucasus region, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis, said at a reception celebrating Georgia’s Independence Day.
Report quotes Gafarova as saying Azerbaijan and Georgia pursue a balanced policy based on respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, "which serves as an example for other countries."
"We advocate for stable and sustainable development of the entire region and sincerely welcome each of our guests... Our countries have built a powerful and long-term model of bilateral cooperation, covering political, economic, scientific-technical and other spheres. Thanks to such interaction, new opportunities are created for further development of interstate relations," Gafarova stated.
She emphasized that Azerbaijan is one of the countries that has made the largest investments in energy and electric power, contributing to overall economic growth.
"The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline projects and other strategic initiatives, which form the basis of our cooperation, play an important role in forming new economic and energy connections between Europe and Asia," she said.
Gafarova also noted the high level of cooperation between the two countries in education and culture.
"Azerbaijan and Georgia are connected by bonds of mutual trust, support and friendship. We successfully interact in the international arena and confidently represent our interests. In all international organizations, our countries traditionally support each other. I am confident that in the coming years, relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia will continue to develop dynamically, opening new perspectives and serving the well-being of our peoples," Gafarova concluded.
