Rossbach urges reform of recovery project financing at WUF13

Housing plays a key role in overcoming poverty and building long-term economic prosperity.

Report informs that UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach said this while speaking at an event on "Housing as a Foundation for Crisis Recovery and Reconstruction" held as part of WUF13.

"Housing is a transferable asset, a key condition for overcoming poverty and increasing prosperity," Rossbach said.

According to her, international development banks remain cautious about financing projects in crisis and post-conflict regions due to high risks.

The UN-Habitat chief noted the need to revise approaches to the international financial architecture, including expanding concessional financing mechanisms and reducing investment risks for such projects.

She also said that, as part of UN system reforms, housing issues had been included in three key areas of UN-Habitat's work, along with the climate agenda and recovery after crises.
