Young women in Guatemala and other Latin American countries are increasingly involved in mapping urban environments and discussing the "care economy" as an important component of urban development, Anna Bednarczyk, a representative of the Huairou Commission, said at the "Youth Leadership for Safe and Sustainable Cities" event held within the framework of WUF13.
Report quotes her as saying in Guatemala, young women have participated in analyzing urban safety and mapping public spaces, later presenting their findings to local authorities.
"Such practices make it possible to take into account the experience of everyday city use, especially in the context of gender-based violence and restrictions in public spaces," Bednarczyk noted.
She emphasized that after the COVID-19 pandemic, many cities have increased attention to care-related issues and the so-called "care economy."
According to the Commission representative, such initiatives are actively developing, particularly in Bogotá and cities in Uruguay.
