Remains of several missing Azerbaijani martyrs to be handed over to families soon

In the coming days, the remains of several missing Azerbaijani martyrs whose identities have been established will be handed over to their families, Deputy Chief of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Sharafat Hasanov, said at the international conference titled "Enhancing Cooperation and Advancing Modern Approaches in Addressing the Issue of Missing Persons," Report informs.

Hasanov stressed that the fate of missing citizens resulting from Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan has been complicated by the heavy contamination of occupied territories with mines and unexploded ordnance, widespread vandalism that destroyed infrastructure, settlements, landscapes, and even grave sites, as well as Armenia's refusal to provide information about burial locations.

He noted that after the 44‑day war, senior Armenian military officials – including former Deputy Defense Minister and later MP General Gagik Melkonyan, Samvel Babayan, and others – publicly admitted to knowing burial sites of missing Azerbaijani servicemen, yet this information has not been shared with Azerbaijan.

Hasanov added: "Even former Armenian Deputy Defense Minister General Manvel Grigoryan admitted in interviews that he personally held Azerbaijani captives. We believe such actions not only violate universally accepted principles of humanism but also pose a threat to international humanitarian law."
