The well-known Pakistani edition Nation.com has reported on the purpose of the official visit of the country’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Azerbaijan, Report informs.
The main purpose of the visit is to discuss cooperation between the two countries in the areas of investment, trade and energy.
“Pakistan has always had warm and friendly relations with Azerbaijan, because both countries have religious, cultural and historical similarities. The official visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Azerbaijan to discuss possible cooperation in the areas of trade, investment and energy is a clear confirmation of this. It is encouraging that the government is trying to avoid international conflicts, market uncertainty and diplomatic pressure, and instead uses the opportunities that have opened up in the region,” the agency noted.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan are already in bilateral political consultations, ending in May: “Previously agreed terms will certainly be confirmed during this visit, but now our goal should be to secure large volumes of exports with our regional partner while discussing investment and energy trade opportunities.”
“Pakistan’s problems, especially the difficulty of depleting foreign exchange reserves, are well known throughout the world. We cannot hide the fact that we are trying to reduce the cost of importing gas and oil products.
Before that, both countries decided to open credit lines in the amount of $220 million for the import of petroleum products and liquefied natural gas (LNG) under intergovernmental agreements. Based on this, Azerbaijan agreed to supply Pakistan with one batch of LNG per month at affordable prices. The details of this agreement have not yet been finalized, so it is important that the prime minister bring it up during his visit. Oil and gas prices have skyrocketed around the world, and we can use a source that promises to supply them at subsidized prices,” Nation.com stressed.
Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has been on an official visit to Azerbaijan since June 14.
