Portugal decides to open embassy in Azerbaijan

A telephone conversation was held between Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Portugal's Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijan MFA.

The telephone conversation reportedly discussed the current state and development prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Portugal, as well as regional and international security issues.

The Portuguese minister brought to attention that a decision had been made to elevate the level of his country's diplomatic representation in Baku and to open an embassy in Azerbaijan. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed gratitude for this decision.

The ministers emphasized the importance of the political consultations mechanism and mutual visits in the direction of developing bilateral relations. The existing opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, trade, transport, and tourism were reviewed.

The parties also touched upon cooperation issues within the framework of international organizations and noted the importance of continuing mutual support.

The ministers expressed their concerns about the growing military escalation in the Middle East and brought attention to the necessity of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

The ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
