Pakistani minister: Urban solutions ignore perspective of poor countries

Currently, urban challenges are not being addressed from the perspective of poor countries, Musadik Malik, Pakistan's Minister for Climate Affairs, said during the session held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, according to Report.

Minister Malik mentioned that the solutions must also consider the perspective of poor people: "If housing stock is to be increased, capital costs must be very low, because the required funds are extremely large. Sometimes capital exists, but when its cost is factored in, the situation becomes very complicated. Another problem is financing mechanisms. For middle, upper classes, and wealthy people, certain solutions exist. But for poor people, there is no real solution. If the answer is simply to create a real estate market, governments can easily do that. But for the poor, there is no genuine solution."
