Norliza Hashim: Malaysia developed national roadmap for SDG11

Malaysia continues to consistently implement the New Urban Agenda and views regional platforms as a key tool for accelerating its implementation, Norliza Hashim, CEO of URBANICE Malaysia, said at a training event using the Asia-Pacific Urban Agenda Platform (AP-UAP) at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

She stated that Malaysia has remained committed to implementing the New Urban Agenda since 2016 and has already submitted two national reports on its implementation.

Hashim noted that the country has developed a national roadmap for Sustainable Development Goal 11 and completed approximately 94 voluntary local reviews.

"The AP-UAP platform is part of Malaysia's national and regional commitments aimed not only at domestic development but also at strengthening cooperation within the Asia-Pacific region," she said.

Hashim also recalled that Malaysia holds the Presidency of the UN-Habitat Assembly from 2024 to 2027, after which it will hand over to the UAE, which opens up additional opportunities to advance joint initiatives.

According to her, the platform could serve as a common programmatic framework for both presidencies and support synchronization with similar initiatives in other regions, including the African Urban Agenda Platform, initiated by Morocco.

Hashim noted that accelerating the implementation of the New Urban Agenda is possible through the wider use of regional methodological platforms, which allow for the unification of approaches and the exchange of experiences across regions.
