The agreement reached in Washington between Azerbaijan and Armenia with US mediation created a solid foundation for completing the peace settlement, Georgian political analyst and expert on the geopolitics of the Caucasus and the Black Sea region Nika Chitadze told Report's Georgian bureau while commenting on the first anniversary of the Washington summit.
According to the expert, the logical outcome of this process should be the conclusion of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"Today, the development of cooperation between the two countries can only be welcomed. This is a key fundamental condition for achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus," the political analyst emphasized.
Chitadze noted that the efforts of the United States, the European Union, as well as both parties are making a significant contribution to the peace process.
"Within the framework of these initiatives, the leaders of both Azerbaijan and Armenia are demonstrating the political will to establish peace," he said.
The expert also congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the restoration of the country's territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
"I wish Azerbaijan further strengthening of its position in the economic, political and geopolitical spheres," Chitadze concluded.
