Mukhtar Babayev, IUCN chief discuss regional environmental cooperation

Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues and COP29 President, met with Dr. Grethel Aguilar, Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), on the sidelines of Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 and the 8th GEF Assembly in Samarkand, Report informs, citing Babayev's post on X.

During the meeting, the sides discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, climate resilience and regional environmental initiatives.

They also reviewed prospects for implementing joint projects and developing partnerships across the region.

The sides exchanged views on the growing importance of regional cooperation in addressing interconnected climate and nature challenges, as well as advancing practical implementation efforts.
