Mukhtar Babayev: BCAW 2026 to drive economic change

Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW) 2026 will serve as a catalyst for both economic transformation and progress on climate issues, Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijani President's Representative for Climate Issues, said at the UNFCCC Climate Week 4 in Baku, Report informs.
Speaking at the session under the theme Energy Transition, Climate Finance, and Industrial Decarbonization, Babayev emphasized that Climate Week would stimulate change across the economy and climate agenda:
"Wildfires, food and health problems are increasing worldwide, and all of them stem from climate change. These challenges are particularly pressing for small island states. Recently, floods and disasters have claimed 2 million lives globally."
He also underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation among Caspian Sea countries in the fight against climate change: "We must share resources. For Azerbaijan, the climate agenda also carries political significance. COP29 demonstrated that Azerbaijan approaches these issues with sensitivity and works toward solutions."
