Moroccan newspaper Aswat (magazineaswat.com) published an article by orientalist Hashim Mammadov entitled "Azerbaijan's economic importance for Europe is growing."
Report informs that the article speaks about the 8th meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council held on February 4 in Baku: "The participation of more countries and companies in the meeting than last year is an indicator of the need for Azerbaijani gas in new markets."
The article says that the political situation in Ukraine may increase the importance of Azerbaijan for solving the problems that may arise in the supply of natural gas to Europe.
Mammadov wrote that Azerbaijan exports natural gas to European markets through the Southern Gas Corridor: "For the present, the main point is to diversify the gas transportation."
According to the Moroccan media, Azerbaijan exported 19 billion cubic meters of gas in 2021: 8.5 bcm was exported to Turkey, 7 bcm to Italy, the remaining part to other members of the Corridor (Georgia, Greece, and Bulgaria).
"As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev noted, Albania will get Azerbaijani gas as soon as it completes the gas grid.
The gas factor increases Azerbaijan's significance for the West," the article said.
