Montenegro reports serious challenges in urban planning sector

Montenegro faces numerous challenges in the field of urban planning, including uncontrolled urbanization and a large number of illegal constructions, Radmila Lajnović, a representative of Montenegro's Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property, said during WUF13, Report informs.

"We need to carry out reforms in the area of social and general housing policy. We also needed recommendations on the issue of uncontrolled urbanization," the Montenegrin representative stated.

Lajnović noted that after regaining independence in 2006, Montenegro went through rapid economic transformations.

"Today we are the official leader in the EU accession process among the Western Balkan countries and have already opened 33 negotiation chapters," she said.

According to her, the government expects to complete the negotiation process by the end of the year and become a full member of the EU by 2028.
