Matviyenko: Heydar Aliyev - example for many generations of peoples of Azerbaijan and Russia

Events dedicated to the anniversary of Heydar Aliyev are held in different cities of Russia, and this shows that his legacy is highly valued in the Russian Federation, and his name is forever inscribed in the history of our state. I have no doubt that the life of Heydar Aliyev and his deeds will serve as an example for many generations of the peoples of Azerbaijan and Russia, Chairperson of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko said at the opening of an exhibition in Moscow dedicated to the 100th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the Russian bureau of Report informs.

Matviyenko noted that the fate of Heydar Aliyev was closely connected with Russia: “It is very symbolic that the title of today’s exhibition is Heydar Aliyev’s quote “In Russia is part of my soul.” Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev, between whom trusting relations have developed, continue today tradition of centuries-old friendship between Russia and Azerbaijan. A striking example of strengthening strategic ties is the signed declaration on allied interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan.”

The speaker of the Federation Council reminded that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was thanks to Heydar Aliyev that Azerbaijan managed to embark on the path of development: “After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the situation was difficult in Azerbaijan, there was civil confrontation, anarchy. It was thanks to this wise, experienced person, a great patriot of his country and his people it became possible to calm the country, put it on the path of creation and development. He responded to the request of the Azerbaijani people, took on this huge responsibility and successfully coped with this difficult task.”

According to her, it was Heydar Aliyev who laid the foundation for the transformation of Azerbaijan into a stable, prosperous, dynamically developing state: “He truly won people’s love and international recognition. In many episodes of his daily work, a portrait of a decisive, authoritative, but at the same time very sensitive, sympathetic and surprisingly charming person is formed.”

Matviyenko stressed that the national leader attached particular importance to the friendship between the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan: “Not only in Azerbaijan, Russia, but also in a number of other states, monuments to Heydar Aliyev were erected, streets and squares were named after him. In my opinion, such a deep respect for the personality of Heydar Aliyev is the best assessment of his many years of work for the benefit of the people. Throughout his life, Heydar Aliyev attached special importance to the friendship between the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan. He treated Russia, the Russian language, Russian culture with great love.”
