Maimunah Mohd Sharif supports establishment of Baku climate and urbanization coalition

Former Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif praised the establishment of the Baku Sustainability Coalition on urban climate action and sustainable urbanization.

Report informs that she said this at a meeting of the Baku Coalition held as part of WUF13.

"I am glad that we have established the Baku Sustainability Coalition here. This means that we are taking the outcomes of all COPs and turning them into a coalition, continuing the work within the framework of urban climate action and sustainable development standards," she said.

According to Sharif, the key issue is the transition from political declarations to practical measures, as well as the need for a people-centered and integrated approach to urban development.

"Urban systems are very complex. We know that the future is urbanized. Whether we like it or not, 70% of the world"s population will live in cities," she added.
