Lu Mei: Azerbaijani president's visit to China was a historic event

The visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to China from April 22 to 24 was a historic event for the development of relations between the two countries, China's Ambassador to Baku, Lu Mei, said at a press conference on April 28.

"At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Ilham Aliyev paid a state visit to China from April 22 to 24. As the new Chinese ambassador to Azerbaijan, who recently assumed her post, I had the honor of witnessing this important historic moment in the exchange of views between the heads of state and the elevation of bilateral relations to a new level," the diplomat said.

The ambassador recalled that President Aliyev has visited China seven times and has held more than 10 meetings with President Xi Jinping.

"Participating throughout the entire process of this visit, I felt most strongly that the diplomacy between the heads of state serves as a compass and guiding star for the development of China-Azerbaijan relations. (...) The two heads of state have established good working relations and strengthened a deep personal friendship. Under the strategic leadership of the two leaders, China-Azerbaijan relations have consistently advanced to a new level and have now reached the highest point in history, setting an example of equality and friendly cooperation between large and small countries," Lu Mei said.
