LMAC: Conflict in southern Lebanon affects demining operations

Ongoing clashes in southern Lebanon amid the renewed Israel–Hezbollah confrontation have also impacted mine clearance activities, said Wajdi Jaber Hyder, Head of Logistics and Administration and Gender Coordinator at the Lebanon Mine Action Center (LMAC), during the panel session at the 4th International Mine Action Conference in Baku, Report informs.

Jaber Hyder explained that due to the escalation of conflict in southern Lebanon, LMAC redirected mine clearance teams from conflict‑affected areas to higher‑priority and accessible regions:

"During the redeployment of teams, risk assessments, access possibilities, evidence of contamination with mines and other explosive devices, as well as the needs of affected communities were taken into account," Haidar said.

He stressed that LMAC continues mine clearance operations even under crisis conditions, while maintaining international and national mine action standards, quality assurance, and safety requirements.
