Latvian MP: Azerbaijan became center of energy, transit, political influence in Caucasus

The joint declaration signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia with the mediation of US President Donald Trump is shaping a new political era in the Caucasus region, Latvian Saeima Deputy Romans Naudins told Report.

He noted that the Zangazur Corridor opening for international trade will significantly facilitate cargo transportation between Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Europe, strengthen the status of Azerbaijan as a transit center and open up new prospects for regional economies:

"It is predicted that world trade will grow by $50-100 billion in the coming years, and Azerbaijan's non-oil gross domestic product will increase by more than 5%. With such diplomatic success, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev continues his triumphant march after the liberation of the country's territories from Armenian occupation. Under his leadership, Azerbaijan has become a center of energy, transit and political influence in the Caucasus. Ilham Aliyev has proven himself to be an experienced politician capable of not only achieving any result in negotiations, but also effectively protecting the economic interests and security of Azerbaijan."
