Kremlin: Azerbaijan-Armenia peace treaty may be signed in foreseeable future

No one is chasing time, but in the foreseeable future, a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia may be signed, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists, Report's Russian bureau informs.

“Yesterday, President Putin, [President of Azerbaijan Ilham] Aliyev and Prime Minister [of Armenia Nikol] Pashinyan reached agreements and gave instructions that the relevant deputy prime ministers would meet next week, that is in a week. This will be the end of next week. They will meet in Moscow and will be working on the issues that exist, the fundamental understanding of how to solve them, but we still need to agree on details,” Peskov told reporters when asked if, according to the Kremlin, this meeting can be considered final before signing a peace treaty.

He clarified that there is a common point of view, there is ‘an understanding of the heads of state on how to solve this,’ and therefore ‘any artificial obstacles should no longer be created at the working level.’

“The main thing is still the final result. No one is chasing time here. Although, again, as was said at the meeting yesterday, circumstances have changed in many respects... All these circumstances make it possible to sign a peace treaty in the foreseeable future,” Peskov added.

On May 25, Moscow hosted a trilpartite meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
