Karen Sutherland: Treating AI as a close companion could end in tragedy

One of the main reasons for the spread of disinformation on digital platforms is the lack of oversight, Karen Sutherland, Director of DHARANA Digital, stated during a side event within the framework of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, Report informs.

Sutherland noted that institutions within countries must find cooperative solutions: "In some countries, obligations have been placed on platforms regarding disinformation. For example, any creator using AI-generated content must disclose it. Otherwise, they face fines or access restrictions."

She emphasized the difficulty of distinguishing AI-generated content from real material: "In Australia, we took the first step by imposing restrictions on social networks. We must ensure children do not become dependent on digital platforms. People treat AI as if it were someone close to them, and this could lead to tragic consequences."
