Türkiye was the first country to recognize the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said in an interview with Anadolu, Report informs.
"Relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye have strengthened in recent years. Behind this is the will of our people and the fraternal relations of our leaders," Bayramov said.
He added that Azerbaijani diplomats protect the interests of Türkiye as their own, and Turkish diplomats protect the interests of Azerbaijan: "As an example, we can say that President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting held in Prague in 2014, 'If Turkiye is not here, I am here.' Also, during the Second Karabakh War, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a statement that 'Azerbaijan is our red line.' Erdogan's message reached the right places, and they stood outside the process, understanding what needed to be done. The state and people of Azerbaijan knew and felt that brotherly Türkiye was with them. During the 44-day war, the position of the Turkish people and state was very important. Azerbaijan has become stronger with the political and moral support, and it was a clear message to the whole world."
