Jeyhun Bayramov: Climate risks increasing pressure on national economies

Economic diversification and energy resilience are becoming increasingly important for national security, as the impacts of climate change intensify pressure on economies and public finances, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.

According to Report, speaking at the opening ceremony of Climate Week 4 of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (CW4), Bayramov said the rapid environmental changes taking place around the planet can no longer be viewed as a distant threat.

"The reality of climate change is no longer something remote-its consequences are evident in every corner of the world, including our region. One of the most striking examples is the Caspian Sea," the foreign minister noted.

Bayramov drew attention to the significant decline in the Caspian Sea's water level in recent years. According to him, the shoreline visible today along Baku Boulevard is already noticeably different from what it was just a few decades ago.

The minister stressed that the growing impact of climate change is placing increasingly serious financial pressure on national economies and public finances.

"Global instability, conflicts and market volatility are exacerbating this pressure. Under these circumstances, economic diversification and energy resilience are becoming increasingly important for national security, economic stability and long-term sustainability," Bayramov said.
