Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said the construction of a ferry for Uzbekistan needs to be expedited and the project given priority status, according to Report's correspondent in Tashkent.
"We already have certain results in the transport and transit sector. I was informed that the volume of cargo from Uzbekistan passing through Azerbaijan is increasing. It is necessary to speed up the construction of a ferry for Uzbekistan. Shavkat Miromonovich and I discussed this. The issue has been resolved; we simply need to put this project on the priority list," Ilham Aliyev said at the 3rd meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
The head of state added that around 10 vessels of various types - ferries, tankers and dry cargo ships - are currently being built simultaneously at the Baku Shipyard. The plant is operating at full capacity.
The Azerbaijani leader also drew the attention of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport to the need to take into account the priority nature of the ferry construction project for Uzbekistan.
