The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) intends to continue its interaction with Azerbaijan after the organization's office in Baku is scheduled to close on September 3, the head of the ICRC delegation in Armenia, Daphnée Maret, told journalists, according to Report.
"The ICRC will close its office in Baku on September 3. However, work with the Azerbaijani leadership will continue, communication with the authorities will not be interrupted, and discussions on this matter are ongoing. One of the most important issues in this context is the problem of missing persons, and naturally, the Red Cross hopes to participate in the process of resolving this problem as a neutral party and mediator," Maret said.
She added that the ICRC has been actively working with the Azerbaijani side all these years, transmitting information about missing persons.
At the same time, Maret noted that the text of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan stipulates the need to work with international structures to clarify the fate of missing persons: "It is in this context that the Red Cross expects that its efforts will be in demand."
