Hungarian pharmaceutical companies to expand their activities in Azerbaijan

Hungarian companies will expand their product portfolios in Azerbaijan in the near future, including some psychiatric and cardiovascular drugs, Hungarian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Tamas Torma said at the international conference "Azerbaijan's pharmaceutical industry: Yesterday, today and tomorrow" held in Baku Monday, Report informs.

The diplomat said that Hungary began exporting medicines to Azerbaijan back in 1993:

"Gedeon Richter was the first foreign pharmaceutical company to open an official representative office in Azerbaijan, and Egis donated medicines to Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War. Our pharmaceutical companies are committed to expanding their activities in Azerbaijan, and I believe they will expand their product portfolios in the near future, including some psychiatric and cardiovascular drugs."

The ambassador noted that PannonPharma LLC, one of the leading Hungarian companies but not yet represented in the Azerbaijani market, is also interested in establishing cooperation with Azerbaijan:

"I am sure that this cooperation will be not only effective, but also multifaceted. Scandens Pharmaceutical Industries, together with the University of Pecs in Hungary and the Azerbaijan Medical University, also plans to cooperate in the field of short-term training and education programs in the pharmaceutical industry. In this way, they can contribute not only to the development of the health of Azerbaijani society, but also to bilateral relations in the field of education."

Torma also emphasized that they are working on strengthening state-level cooperation between Hungary and Azerbaijan in the fields of healthcare and pharmaceuticals:

"Celitron Medical Technologies, a Hungarian company, has recently exported high-value, state-of-the-art sterilization and processing equipment for the treatment of biohazardous waste collected from hospitals. Celitron’s innovative technology can be applied not only in the healthcare sector, but also for the treatment of slaughterhouse waste and the disposal of animal carcasses in pandemic situations such as avian influenza. With a holistic approach to this area, we are working to strengthen cooperation between Hungary and Azerbaijan in the fields of healthcare and pharmaceuticals at the state, business-to-business and education levels."
