Humanitarian mine action cornerstone of recovery in liberated lands, EU ambassador says

Humanitarian mine action serves as the foundation for the recovery of liberated territories, the safe return of the population, and the resumption of normal life for local communities, Report informs, citing statements by EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marijana Kujundžić at the 4th International Mine Action Conference in Baku.

According to her, reconstruction cannot begin as long as the land remains unsafe, infrastructure is contaminated with explosive ordnance, and residents lack confidence that they can return without facing threats to their lives.

Kujundžić also praised Azerbaijan's efforts in mine action, particularly the work carried out by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and other involved entities.

"A settlement can be considered safe when families can return without fear, children can go to school without risk, public services can resume full operations, and reconstruction is conducted in accordance with clear standards. It is essential that communities are able to look to the future with confidence and rebuild their lives," the diplomat emphasized.

She added that humanitarian mine action should be viewed not as an isolated effort, but as part of a broader process to build safe, resilient, and inclusive settlements.
