Turkiye and Armenia have started the process of normalization of relations, and Azerbaijan supports it, former Turkish Foreign Minister Hikmet Cetin said at the IX Global Baku Forum, Report informs.
According to him, Turkiye and Armenia have appointed special envoys to normalize ties: "Three meetings of special envoys have already been held. Azerbaijan is aware of this and supports this process."
He stressed that Armenia was not satisfied with the occupation of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in the early 1990s but went further and occupied seven surrounding districts: "After that, Turkiye closed its borders with Armenia. Everyone expected the Minsk Group to do something to resolve the 30-year-old conflict. But this did not happen, and Azerbaijan liberated its territories."
According to him, the region has great potential: "It is necessary to increase and use this potential. But for this to happen, lasting peace and good relations must be established between the region's countries."
