Hikmat Hajiyev: Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations entered a new chapter

Relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan already have the character of a strategic alliance, said Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev while commenting in Uzbekistan on the Treaty on Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, Report's correspondent informs from Tashkent.

According to him, following contacts between the two heads of state in 2020, relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan entered a new chapter.

"Since then, relations between the two states have moved from strategic partnership to the level of an alliance. Now they will have the character of eternal friendship. This is the first such case in Azerbaijan's diplomatic practice, and the second time we are taking such a step specifically with Uzbekistan. Our peoples have always been friends anyway. If we look at the history of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, there are so many ties between us. This can even be seen in the works of Alisher Navoi and other Uzbek writers," Hajiyev said.

He noted that the Azerbaijani-Uzbek literary friendship that has existed throughout history has today acquired the character of eternal friendship at the political level as well.

"This visit is very important for Azerbaijan, because Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are, first and foremost, brotherly peoples. Thanks to the efforts of the leaders of our countries, relations between our brotherly peoples today have the character of an alliance, while Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations, as I have already explained to our colleagues, are reaching a new level - from alliance to eternal friendship. From today, these relations will also have the character of eternal friendship at the political level. Therefore, we believe that this visit will mark a new stage in relations of brotherhood, alliance and eternal friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. We separately thank brotherly Uzbekistan for its hospitality and congratulate it. A major interview by the head of state devoted to Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations was published in the Uzbek media. The president noted in it that we are always happy whenever we come to Uzbekistan," Hajiyev added.
