Hikmat Hajiyev: Azerbaijan has demonstrated its commitment to peace process with Armenia through actions

The Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process is not merely about statements on paper; Azerbaijan has demonstrated its commitment to peace through concrete actions, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, told the Turkish newspaper Milliyet.

According to Report, Hajiyev noted that despite the genocide committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan, Baku has consistently demonstrated its commitment exclusively to peace.

"Today, peace prevails in the South Caucasus. Had the Armenia-Azerbaijan war continued, the sparks of conflicts taking place in neighboring countries could have spread to our region," he said.

The presidential aide also welcomed the current Armenian authorities' adoption of the concept of "Real Armenia" as their guiding approach.

"We realize that the Armenian side has also accepted the new geopolitical reality and is shaping its policy accordingly. They have come to understand that the occupation policy pursued for many years had effectively turned them into hostages themselves, and they have realized the mistakes of that path. Armenia now recognizes how important relations with Azerbaijan and Türkiye are for its own development," Hajiyev said.

He also noted that the opening of the Zangazur Corridor is part of the new geopolitical reality and serves the interests of both Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"Armenia also understands that having transit opportunities in the region is important for its own development," he added.
