Hamat Bah: Gambian authorities are implementing a new national land policy until 2035

The authorities of The Gambia are implementing a new National Land Policy through 2035, which provides for the digitization of the land system, the introduction of electronic registries, and the simplification of property rights registration procedures, stated The Gambia's Minister of Lands and Regional Governance, Hamat Bah, at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, the reforms are aimed at increasing transparency in the land management system, reducing the number of conflicts, and creating more favorable conditions for investors.

"Through transparency, legalization, and equitable access, we are reducing the number of disputes and accelerating the implementation of investment projects," the minister emphasized.

Bah noted that the new policy also provides for the recognition of various forms of land ownership, the creation of a unified digital land information system, and the fight against fraud and speculation.

He said that particular attention is being paid to ensuring equal access to land for women, youth, and people with disabilities, as well as protecting women's property rights.

The minister emphasized that land reform is particularly important for The Gambia against the backdrop of rapid growth and high population density.

According to Bah, the reforms are being implemented with the support of the World Bank, which is assisting the country in harmonizing legislation and digitizing the land management system.
