Gusman: Heydar Aliyev's legacy will be studied for generations

The National Leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, was a politician of global stature, and his legacy will remain a subject of study for new generations for many years to come, Russian journalist Mikhail Gusman said at the presentation of the book "Lessons of Statehood and Diplomacy of Heydar Aliyev. Book One," Report informs.

According to him, Heydar Aliyev's personality was distinguished by outstanding political talent and the scale of his thinking.

"I remember him in Moscow at a press conference. Earlier, I met with journalists who still recall that meeting. He was a person of great, global stature. The strength of his political talent and the scale of his personality will be remembered for centuries. He will be studied more and more - such is the fate of world leaders. In all of world history, there have not been many figures of that level," Gusman said.

The journalist noted that during the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev's birth, he was able to study his biography and state activities more deeply.

"I thought I knew a lot about him. But when I delved deeper into his legacy, I realized that I practically knew nothing about the courage and resilience of this man," he emphasized.

Gusman recalled that in 1987, Heydar Aliyev suffered a severe heart attack, which doctors assessed as extremely life-threatening. Despite this, he continued active state service and consciously took on responsibility associated with serious risk.

"He had a great mission ahead of him - to return to the country at its most difficult moment and save it. He understood that every day, going to work, meeting with people, and making decisions, he was literally risking his life. And he did so consciously," the journalist noted.

He further noted that the historical role of politicians like Heydar Aliyev only becomes more significant over time. Gusman also added that he considers it a great honor that his name was mentioned by Heydar Aliyev.
