Azerbaijan possesses significant mountain potential and views its development as an important component of the country"s broader regional development strategy focused on sustainability and long-term growth, member of the Milli Majlis Mubariz Gurbanli said during the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA) held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
Report quotes him as saying the development of mountainous areas is enshrined in the Azerbaijan 2030 strategy, which is aimed at ensuring balanced regional development.
The MP also highlighted the "Great Return" program being implemented in Azerbaijan"s liberated territories, a significant part of which is located in mountainous regions.
"Azerbaijan"s liberated territories were historically known for their high tourism potential. In particular, the Kalbajar District was distinguished by its resorts and picturesque landscapes, while the city of Shusha was known for its rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions. Following liberation, a large-scale program for the restoration and development of tourism infrastructure is being implemented in these territories. Modern tourism conditions are being created, and new facilities and tourism centers are being built," he said.
