Gianfrancesco: Sport can strengthen citizen engagement in achieving SDGs

Sports initiatives directly or indirectly contribute to the achievement of all Sustainable Development Goals, the Ambassador of Italy to Baku, Luca Di Gianfrancesco, said during a panel discussion at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

"It is necessary to avoid fragmentation and maximize synergy between sports, urban development, and international cooperation," the diplomat stated.

According to him, sports should be used not only to promote a healthy lifestyle.

"It should also become a tool for shaping a new culture of sustainable development and environmental education, strengthening citizen participation in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and raising awareness about them," Di Gianfrancesco noted.
