Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Berlin in July 2026 marked a promising start to a new stage in relations between the two countries, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dirk Lölke said at an event marking German Unity Day.
According to Report, the ambassador said that on the day he and his wife arrived in Baku in July, President Ilham Aliyev had departed for Berlin to sign, together with the German Federal Chancellor, a Joint Declaration on the Strategic Agenda of the Bilateral Partnership, thereby taking bilateral relations to a new level.
"President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Berlin together with his delegation is a promising start. I look forward to the opportunity to work closely with you within the framework of this agenda in the years ahead," the diplomat said.
The ambassador also noted that Germany highly valued the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
"Establishing peace will take time, but lasting peace in the region should provide a foundation for economic progress and international cooperation," Lölke said.
According to him, Germany also intends to expand academic exchanges between universities and strengthen ties between the societies of the two countries.
"I look forward to the opportunity to work on developing cooperation in philology, German-language teaching and all other academic fields," the ambassador added.
