Galuzin: Regular contacts contribute to final agreements between Baku and Yerevan

Russia's provision of a platform for negotiations on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia is one of the elements of assistance in achieving concrete results in the peace process. Regular contacts will make it possible to reach final peace agreements between the two countries, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said in an interview with TASS.

Galuzin recalled that on May 19 in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with his counterparts, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan in bilateral and trilateral formats. On the sidelines of these events, a separate Armenian-Azerbaijani meeting on a peace treaty was also held.

"Talks in Moscow on this topic helped improve understanding between the parties, bring positions closer on a number of issues. We will continue to provide all possible assistance to Baku and Yerevan for this purpose. We hope that such regular contacts will make it possible to reach final peace agreements," he stressed.

According to him, the work is being done in accordance with the trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, which form the foundation for the normalization of relations between the two countries.

"In addition to the peace treaty, it [the work] includes such areas as unblocking transport and economic ties, delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and strengthening confidence through the development of public contacts. Achieving a peace treaty largely depends on the progress of all tracks of normalization. This is what our assistance has been directed, including in the search for balanced compromise solutions on controversial issues that suit both Baku and Yerevan," he said.
