Gafarova: Azerbaijan seeks to turn NAM principles into practical action

Azerbaijan is working to translate the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) into practical action, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, stated during an event in Belgrade, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of NAM, Report's Balkan bureau informs.

The official noted that NAM's principles align with the core values of Azerbaijan's policy, and these principles are reflected in the organization's program.

She reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to independence, solidarity, unity, and to strengthening NAM's international standing.

"Azerbaijan seeks to turn these principles into practical action. In times of global challenges, we promote solidarity and cooperation among NAM member states," Gafarova emphasized.

She highlighted Azerbaijan's contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, including providing financial and humanitarian aid to more than 80 countries, as well as offering technical assistance and educational grants.

Gafarova also stressed Azerbaijan's focus on institutional development of NAM, noting that since 2021, five conferences have been held under the Parliamentary Network, resulting in key decisions such as establishing the Network's headquarters in Baku and building cooperation with international and inter-parliamentary organizations.

"Today, the Network brings together parliaments of NAM member states. This demonstrates our determination to implement the Bandung principles, and to promote dialogue, justice, peace, and sustainable development through parliamentary diplomacy," she concluded.
