Former OIC secretary-general: Azerbaijan is only country in Islamic world that liberated its occupied lands

Azerbaijan is the only country in the Islamic world that liberated its occupied land, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the former secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), told journalists in Baku, Report informs.

He said that Islamophobia is the name of a threat that worries the entire Islamic world and humanity: “This attitude of the West towards the Islamic world is an old disease. Simply, with the development of communication in recent years, this situation grabs more attention. Therefore, the conference held in Baku created excellent conditions for discussing the problem at the academic level.”

The former secretary-general emphasized that Islamophobia manifests itself in different ways in every country: “While the events in Karabakh should be approached in a general way, in many cases the problem was approached in an Armenian-Azerbaijani, therefore Christian-Muslim format.”

Ihsanoglu said that the atrocities committed by Armenia during the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijan, the destruction of mosques and abuses are one of the biggest manifestations of Islamophobia: “It is great that Azerbaijan put an end to this occupation with the 44-day Patriotic War and put an end to the brutality committed against our history and culture.”
