Foreign minister: Iran vows to investigate Nakhchivan drone incident

Iran has promised Azerbaijan that it will investigate the missile-drone incident that occurred in Nakhchivan.

Report informs that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this in a statement to journalists during a visit to the Alley of Honor on the occasion of the 103rd birth anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

According to the minister, Azerbaijan reacted immediately after the incident and held numerous contacts with Iran.

"The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran called Mr. President. I also held several phone conversations with the Iranian foreign minister. The Iranian side claims that the missiles and drones were not launched by Iran. Their position is that this was a provocation carried out by certain third countries. Several contacts have also taken place through military channels," he said.

On March 5, Azerbaijan said unmanned aerial vehicles attacked Nakhchivan from Iranian territory. One of the drones fell on the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school building in the village of Shakarabad in Babek district. Four civilians were injured in the attack on the airport. In connection with the incident, Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the Foreign Ministry. Azerbaijan said it reserved the right to take retaliatory measures.
