Foreign Minister: Azerbaijan closely cooperates with various UN agencies

Azerbaijan closely cooperates with the UN and various agencies of this organization, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said at an event in Shusha dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN.

According to him, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic will be discussed today.

"The world is going through hard times, and a lot of efforts are required to address existing challenges. But these should be close joint efforts. One of these challenges is the pandemic," the Foreign Minister said. He recalled that Azerbaijan sent humanitarian aid to more than 80 countries during the pandemic.

According to him, the President of Azerbaijan has done a lot to prevent "vaccine nationalism" and has repeatedly raised the topical issue of equal access to COVID-19 vaccines within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.

"Azerbaijan appreciates the importance that the UN attaches to implementing the SDGs, and for this, our country cooperates with various UN institutions," the Foreign Minister added.

He recalled that after the end of the Patriotic War, Azerbaijan began restoring the liberated territories so that the IDPs could return to their native lands as soon as possible. Bayramov noted that heavy mine contamination slows down the pace of restoration work in these territories.
